Stage 1. Objective
My aim was to give Timepass Games its own playful, recognizable mascot — a character that could be the life of the app, especially in those quiet no-state moments.
As the sole game designer, visual designer and illustrator for the startup, I had the innate responsibility to create the face of the app while keeping the color of the brand intact.
Stage 2. Color choice
No, its not Duolingo!!!!
Stay with me :P At first glance, the color might remind you of Duolingo (a testament to their brilliant branding). But here, the green comes straight from Timepass Games’ own brand palette. Green stands for growth, success, freshness, and joy, exactly what every gamer aspires to achieve in their gameplay. That’s why green is at the heart of Timepass’ identity.
Stage 3. Ideation and Concept Development
For the ideation stage, I took inspiration from the brands who have their mascots and scribbled a lot of characters and shapes.
Stage 4: The birth of Teemu
After rounds of ideation, I took the concepts to the people around me and asked which character best captured the spirit of Timepass Games. The winner? A flying superhero robot, it made them feel like superheroes in their own gameplay, soaring from one adventure to another. Since Timepass Games offered 100+ titles to explore, this flying character felt like the perfect guide. And just like that, Teemu, the mascot, was born.
Oh and he wears socks. That was a personal touch because I love wearing socks too :P
Stage 5: Illustrating the Teemu and its no state versions in vector
Once Teemu’s character design was finalized, the next step was to bring him to life in vector form. I illustrated Teemu along with his various 'no-state' versions in Adobe Illustrator.
